Cycling has been a big topic in Žilina for several years. Cyclists as well as various civic associations welcome new projects, as the number of cyclists grows every year.
For the Foundation Kia Motors Slovakia the bike sharing project means the continuation of the mobility support. Since its establishment in 2013, the Foundation has provided cycling routes worth a total of 290,000 EUR in Žilina region, supported the construction of cycle shelters or built a pump track on the Hydraulic structure. The bike sharing project as an alternative way of transport was therefore a natural next step in its development.
The main goal was to develop an accessible and functional bike sharing that will widen the transport possibilities of the citizens and thus improve the quality of life in the city. The priority was to bring into service a system that would be attractive for users and easy to use.
Bike sharing is considered a positive change for cycling in our city. This project will also allow bicycles to be used by people who do not own or have their bicycles available, such as university students or tourists. BikeKIA can start a completely new era of mobility in Žilina.
The Foundation has long-term interest in expanding a sustainable transport system that has a positive impact on the environment and will contribute to a better and more flexible mobility of the citizens. Therefore, we believe that bicycles will become a popular alternative mode of transport for all residents or visitors of Žilina.
